Aqueous Humor:In the field of medicine, this term describes a fluid or semifluid substance. Specifically, it is the clear, watery fluid found in the anterior and posterior chambers of the eye. This fluid circulates between these chambers, providing nourishment to the eye structures, and is produced by the ciliary processes.Historically, the concept of humors was central to an ancient theory that suggested health depended on the balance of bodily fluids, known as humors. Illness was believed to result from an imbalance among these humors, which included:- Phlegm (associated with water)- Blood- Black bile (believed to be secreted by the kidneys)- Yellow bile (produced by the liver)This theory, often referred to as the humoral theory, was developed long before the time of Hippocrates (c.460-c.375 BC). It wasn't until 1858 that Rudolf Virchow's groundbreaking book, "Cellular Pathology," established the cellular basis of disease, effectively discrediting the humoral theory. Modern pathology now relies on cellular and molecular science, leaving behind the humoral concept, with the exception of the aqueous humor.
