Liver:The liver is the body's largest solid organ, located in the upper right section of the abdomen. It performs a wide array of vital and intricate functions. It produces proteins that help regulate blood volume and blood clotting factors. Additionally, it synthesizes, stores, and processes fats, which are used for energy, as well as other substances. The liver also metabolizes and stores glucose, which serves as the source of sugar in the blood. It produces and secretes bile, which contains bile acids that assist in the intestinal absorption of fats and the fat-soluble vitamins A, D, E, and K. Moreover, the liver eliminates potentially harmful substances produced by the body, such as bilirubin from the breakdown of old red blood cells and by-products from protein metabolism. It detoxifies the body by metabolizing or secreting drugs, alcohol, and environmental toxins.
