Definition of Sacroiliac joint dysfunction (SI Joint Pain)

Sacroiliac Joint Dysfunction (SI Joint Pain):This condition refers to discomfort originating from issues or injuries in the sacroiliac (SI) joints, which link the spine to the pelvis. These joints are formed where the sacrum connects with the ilium bones on both the right and left sides. The sacrum, located at the base of the spine, consists of five vertebrae that are fused and immobile. Meanwhile, the iliac bones are the two large structures that form the pelvis. Various factors can lead to pain in the sacroiliac joint, such as degenerative diseases, trauma, or changes in walking patterns, as well as pregnancy, which naturally loosens the joint ligaments to prepare the pelvis for childbirth. Treatment options may include anti-inflammatory medications, physical therapy, or surgical intervention.
