Definition of Androgenic

Androgenic:Relating to the emergence of male traits such as body hair, male reproductive organs, and muscle growth. This term is the adjective form of "androgen," which denotes any male hormone, including testosterone and androsterone. The process of developing male characteristics, known as androgenic development, begins during puberty. This is the phase when an individual becomes biologically able to reproduce, usually occurring in males between the ages of 12 and 14. The deepening of the voice is a notable indicator of androgenic activity. In males, androgens are primarily produced by the testes, the two round reproductive organs located below the torso, and the adrenal glands, which are small hormone-producing glands situated on top of each kidney. In females, androgens are also produced by the adrenal glands. An excess of androgen production can lead to the manifestation of male features in women and enhance male traits in men.The term "androgenic" originates from the Greek words "andros" (meaning man) and "genein" (meaning to produce). Related terms include "androgynous" (exhibiting both male and female characteristics), "andrology" (the study of male health), "androphobia" (fear of men), and "android" (a human-like robot in science fiction).
