Definition of NSAID

NSAID

NSAIDs, or nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, are medications often prescribed or available over the counter to address inflammation linked to conditions such as tendonitis. Some well-known NSAIDs include aspirin, indomethacin (sold as Indocin), ibuprofen (under the brand name Motrin), naproxen (known as Naprosyn), piroxicam (marketed as Feldene), and nabumetone (recognized as Relafen). Individuals using certain NSAIDs may face an increased risk of experiencing a particular health issue compared to those not using these drugs. This risk is potentially greater for long-term NSAID users. Significant side effects associated with NSAIDs involve gastrointestinal issues. Between 10 and 50 percent of patients find NSAID treatment intolerable due to these side effects, which may include abdominal pain, diarrhea, bloating, and stomach upset.
