Nosebleed:A nosebleed happens when the blood vessels inside the nose start bleeding. The nose, packed with blood vessels, is placed prominently on the face, making it susceptible to injury. Consequently, any impact to the face can lead to significant bleeding. Nosebleeds may also occur on their own when the nasal membranes dry out, form crusts, and crack, which is common in arid climates or during winter when indoor heating makes the air warm and dry. Those taking medications that affect blood clotting, such as warfarin (marketed as Coumadin), aspirin, or other anti-inflammatory drugs, are more prone to nosebleeds. Additional factors that increase the risk include infections, injuries, allergic or nonallergic reactions, alcohol misuse, and genetic bleeding disorders. This condition is also referred to as epistaxis.
