Definition of Xenon Anesthesia

Xenon Anesthesia

Xenon anesthesia is the use of xenon, an inert noble gas, as a general anesthetic agent. Xenon produces anesthesia with notably stable effects on the cardiovascular system and a rapid onset and recovery, which has made it of interest for patients in whom maintaining steady heart function and blood pressure is important.

Despite these favorable properties, xenon's use remains limited, largely because the gas is rare and expensive and requires specialized delivery equipment. Research has also explored xenon's potential protective effects on the brain and heart during periods of low oxygen, though its routine role in anesthesia and resuscitation is still narrow.
