Proliferative:This term refers to the rapid growth and multiplication of cells. For instance, lymphoproliferative disorders involve the expansion of cells, particularly those from the reticuloendothelial system, which are responsible for absorbing and neutralizing particles. Similarly, myeloproliferative disorders are types of cancer affecting certain cells, including those that develop into granulocytes (a kind of white blood cell) and platelets (essential for blood clotting). The word "proliferative" originates from the French language, which adopted it from the Latin "proles" (meaning offspring or descendants) combined with the suffix "-fer" (meaning bearing). Thus, proliferating cells are essentially producing offspring.
