Definition of Metabolic syndrome

Metabolic Syndrome:This condition is a combination of factors that significantly increase the risk of health issues. It involves high levels of certain conditions, such as high blood pressure, elevated blood sugar, unhealthy cholesterol levels with increased LDL ("bad") cholesterol, decreased HDL ("good") cholesterol, and often a poor diet. These factors are commonly linked with high blood glucose levels. The main underlying issue is insulin resistance, affecting both muscle and fat tissues. Medications that reduce insulin resistance tend to also lower blood pressure and enhance cholesterol levels.Metabolic syndrome is also known by other names, including insulin resistance syndrome, syndrome X, dysmetabolic syndrome X, and Reaven syndrome. The latter is named after Dr. Gerald Reaven of Stanford University, who first introduced the concept during his 1988 Banting Lecture at the annual meeting of the American Diabetes Association.
