Autoimmune Disease:This is a condition where the body's tissues are mistakenly attacked by its own immune system. The immune system, usually tasked with identifying and eliminating foreign invaders like infections, malfunctions in these cases. Individuals with autoimmune disorders often have abnormal antibodies in their bloodstream that mistakenly target their own tissue. Examples of such diseases include rheumatoid arthritis, Sjogren's syndrome, Hashimoto's thyroiditis, type 1 diabetes, polymyositis, multiple sclerosis, vitiligo, lupus, glomerulonephritis, and psoriasis. Autoimmune diseases are more common in women than men. It is believed that female hormones may affect the immune system in a way that predisposes some women to these conditions. Additionally, having one autoimmune disease increases the likelihood of developing another at the same time.
