Definition of Multidetector computed tomography

Multidetector computed tomography

Multidetector computed tomography (MDCT) is a type of advanced imaging technology used for diagnostic purposes. Unlike conventional and helical CT scanners that utilize a linear array of detector elements, MDCT employs a two-dimensional array of detectors. This allows the scanner to capture multiple slices or sections at once, significantly enhancing the speed of CT image acquisition. Although the process of image reconstruction in MDCT is more complex than in single-section CT, this advancement has led to the creation of high-resolution CT applications. MDCT is also known by various other names, including multidetector CT, multidetector-row computed tomography, multidetector-row CT, multisection CT, multislice computed tomography, and multislice CT.
