Definition of Endovaginal ultrasound

Endovaginal Ultrasound:This imaging technique is a specialized form of ultrasound designed to assess internal organs and is the most effective method for identifying a cyst. A cyst's presence can be confirmed by its appearance on the ultrasound. This procedure, similar to a pelvic exam, is painless. It involves inserting a slender, covered probe into the vagina, which is then directed towards the uterus and ovaries. This form of ultrasound provides a clearer image compared to an abdominal ultrasound because the probe can be positioned closer to the ovaries. With endovaginal ultrasound, the structure of an internal cyst can be classified as simple (filled only with fluid), complex (containing both fluid and solid areas), or entirely solid (with no visible fluid).
