Cerebrovascular accident (CVA) prevention

Stroke Prevention: Often, individuals may experience a transient ischemic attack (TIA), which mimics the signs of a stroke. However, these symptoms typically resolve within a short time, ranging from a few minutes to several hours. This condition is frequently due to the narrowing or blockage of the carotid arteries, the primary vessels in the neck that deliver blood to the brain. Without treatment, there's a significant risk of experiencing a major stroke later on. If you suspect a TIA, it's crucial to seek medical help immediately. A procedure known as a carotid endarterectomy, which involves clearing the carotid artery to restore normal blood flow, significantly lowers the chance of a future stroke. Additionally, for individuals with a narrowed carotid artery but no symptoms, stroke risk can be minimized with medications like aspirin and blood thinners that inhibit platelets. These drugs work by partially reducing the activity of platelets, which play a key role in blood clotting.
