The digestive system comprises the organs involved in ingesting food, processing it to maintain health, and expelling waste. This system includes the salivary glands, mouth, stomach, liver, pancreas, and intestines, all connected by a lengthy, winding tube extending from the mouth to the anus. The interior of this tube is lined with a layer called the mucosa. In areas like the mouth, stomach, and small intestine, the mucosa houses tiny glands that release juices to aid in digestion. The liver and pancreas, although solid organs, are part of the digestive process, producing juices that flow into the intestine through small ducts. Additionally, components of other bodily systems, such as nerves and blood vessels, significantly contribute to the digestive process.
