Definition of Arthrosis

Arthrosis:A joint is where two bones connect to allow movement in the body. Typically, a joint (arthrosis) comprises fibrous tissue and cartilage. Joints are categorized based on their movement capabilities: ball and socket joints, hinge joints, condyloid joints (which allow all angular movements except axial rotation), pivot joints, gliding joints, and saddle joints.Joints can move in exactly four distinct ways:- **Gliding:** One bone surface slides over another without any angular or rotational movement.- **Angular:** This movement, which only occurs between long bones, either increases or decreases the angle between the bones.- **Circumduction:** In joints made up of a bone head and an articular cavity, the long bone moves in circles, forming a cone shape.- **Rotation:** A bone rotates around a central axis without deviating from it.The term "arthrosis" is derived from the Greek root "arthros," meaning joint (as in arthritis, which is inflammation of a joint). The term "joint" comes from the Latin root "junctio," meaning a joining (as in a junction).
